What's your role?

As a product engineer, I think of my role as a bridge between product design and software development. I leverage my experiences as a designer and developer to guide a client's vision to market through the entire software development lifecycle. From product scoping to ideation, to development, to maintenance, I operate with a product-first mindset to drive client success and enrich the end user's product experience.

What is the secret to realizing a successful software project?

Communication! Communication is the glue that holds a product together; without good communication, teams and partnerships crumble. In my opinion, strong communication is the ability to communicate complex ideas to different audiences through a plethora of mediums. All in all, it enables stakeholders to set feasible timelines; identify realistic goals, and focus on tasks that ultimately generate the most value for all parties involved.

What emerging technology or industry are you most interested in?

Wholeheartedly, I would say the autonomous vehicle industry. Aside from its positive environmental impacts, the whole notion of a fully autonomous system truly intrigues me. It's fascinating to think about all the small, independent systems that go into operating an autonomous vehicle and how each serves a single purpose that, collectively, operates something as complex as a vehicle.

What's your word of the day?

No. Every day, I always see myself saying yes to everything to avoid disappointing anyone or creating conflict. However, saying "no" has its own merits as well. At least for me, substantiating a "no" makes me critically examine costs and benefits, identify evidence to support my position, and actively engage with other stakeholders! I would argue that a "no" is the most powerful word in creating value in a product, ultimately leading to its success or failure.
