What's your role?
My official job title is UI/UX Developer but being part of a small team I have worn a lot of different hats. Whether that's scoping out a client's vision to create measurable deliverables for my team to accomplish, or being the scrum master during our daily meetings, I have developed skills in product ideation, design, and development. I bring my expertise in product ideation and design to ensure we are developing meaningful solutions that put our user's first. Currently I am working on improving the experience of the Hangar platform to increase efficiency for our team and the Canadian Air Force.
What is the secret to realizing a successful software project?
Having user empathy. At the end of the day, what makes a software project successful is how our users are able to leverage it to accomplish their goals. We are building software to solve their problems, so it is crucial to understand your user's pain points, needs, and wants, and be their advocate throughout the entire development process.
What emerging technology or industry are you most interested in?
Digital healthcare! Our healthcare system is incredibly fragmented and reactive which affects marginalized and vulnerable populations the most. Even though we have a free healthcare system, it's important to have effective and accessible healthcare for all. By leveraging technological advancements, not only can we innovate upon existing systems, but also push for policy changes that fill the gaps.
What's your word of the day?
LESGO (let's go). As in let's go team! I'm not that creative…
